Scripture of the Day
Proverbs 17:14 (NIV)
“Opening The Flood Gate”
The beginning of strife is like releasing water; Therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Although this is really good advice for those who desire to maintain a godly marriage of respect and love . . . I suggest we all take heed! We must keep the flood gate of our mouth under control! It is so easy to “Go off” on someone! I’m sure it feels great to give people “A piece of your mind” Just remember, every time you give someone a piece of your mind . . . you lose the peace that surpasses all understanding! Don’t be so quick to open the flood gates of anger, rudeness, disrespect, etc. just for the sake of winning an argument! And just because you are talking louder than everyone else does not mean you are winning the argument . . . it just means your flood gate is bigger! James 3:5-6 says, Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. Ain’t that something! The tongue can actually open up the flood gates to “H”, “E”, “Double Hockey Sticks” on your life!
Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue (Proverbs 17:28). I am sure many of you have heard me say this before, “It is better to keep your mouth shut and let folks only assume you are an idiot, verses opening your mouth and proving them right!” Opening the flood gates of wickedness can corrupt the whole person, but opening the flood gates of love for one another is right in line with GOD’s Word . . . but that’s another SOD!
Be Blessed & Speak Kindly!
