Skip The Stone - John 8:4-8 (NKJV)

Scripture of the Day
John 8:4-8 (NKJV)
“Skip The Stone”

they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?” This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear. So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.

This is another tuff one!  As I always say, “If it steps on your toes say Ouch!  If it steps on someone else’s toes say Ooh!  But if we know HIS Word is true, say Amen!”

Many of us are quick to cast a stone at someone else for doing wrong . . . even when we know we just did the same thing or worst just a few days before.  In fact, some will cast a stone and they are living in their own mess right now!  These men brought a woman who was caught in the very act of adultery  before JESUS and demanded she be stoned in accordance to the law (side note:  It takes two to commit this act.  Why did they only bring her?)!  JESUS didn’t even speak . . . HE stooped down and wrote on the grown with HIS finger!  It doesn’t say what HE wrote . . . but it convicted the men.    JESUS then asked that whoever was without sin, should throw the first stone!  Wow! One by one, they departed! Every last one of them had to skip the stone that they wanted to throw!  They skipped the stone and walk away in conviction!

Are you standing today with a hand full of stones, and ready to cast them at someone? Are your words towards others as hard as stones?  As a child of GOD, can we truly stand ready to cast the first stone . . . knowing that we are full of sin!  Only by the grace of GOD are we forgiven . . . so please skip the stone . . . cast a hug and blessing upon those you love and those you hate!

U Had 2 Go There said...

I looked at the title and was expecting something about skipping rocks across the water, but you had to go there. That place that reminds us not to judge. That place that says, take the plank out of your eye before you try cleaning the speck out of someone else's eye. That place that says do not judge because you will be judged the same way. I don't think it matters what Jesus wrote on the ground, all I know is it got their attention. And I'm sure those men looked at what he was writing and said to themselves, "He had to go there!"

What an awesome message and a reminder that WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES. Before we point a finger at someone's wrongdoing, we must take the "board out of our eyes."

As a Christian, I'm reminded that I'm not without sin. If I've said or did anything to hurt anyone, I ask God to please forgive. Also, if I know that I've hurt someone or said something out of order, I will apologize to that person--that's what God would want us to do, right?
