Scripture of the Day
Joshua 1:1-3 (NKJV)
“Serve Before You Lead”
After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, it came to pass that the LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: 2 “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses.

Throughout the bible we see how GOD takes ordinary men and women to do extraordinary things! GOD is still using ordinary people to do extraordinary things! One of the most profound things that all of them have in common is they served first! Each person served before they were put into the positions to lead others. Moses was a servant of the LORD and Joshua was Moses’ assistant! After the death . . . notice it doesn’t say Joshua overthrew Moses, then he was to step up and take the leadership position! Too many times we want to push the current leadership out of the way because we feel that we can do better! Don’t move until GOD tells you to step up!
Again, if you give your life to CHRIST today, don’t assume you should open your own church tomorrow! Find yourself a place to serve first! When the time comes, GOD will let you know when to step into a leadership position. Serve GOD first with all your heart! Minister (serve) GOD’s people! Serve in your community! As I always say, “The best leaders are great followers! The best teachers are great students! The best praisers are great worshipers!”
Service Before Leading

I had to post a comment on this one. A person accepts Jesus today and wants to open a church tomorrow is very real and very scary! I have never seen anyone join the military today and becoume a general tomorrow! They are expected to serve through the ranks first, then they become leaders. Maybe it is because that new military person cannot handle the responsibility that comes with the position of general! Overseers and deacons must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil (1 Tim 3:6). It happens more offten than we think. Accept the lord today and lead his people tomorrow is not in accordance to the bible. Thanks for the SOD.

So true! We would not expect a young soldier to join the military today and lead hundreds of troops tomorrow like an experienced general! There must be training and experiences. And just because someone has done what it takes to become a general does not mean they are a good leader. It takes the application of the training and experiences to be a great leader. Without Godly wisdom . . . they are just the person in charge, not a leader. I've shared this before and it may be worth sharing again! "If you are leading others . . . be sure to look back and see if they are still following!"
Thank you for sharing
