Sin Gives Birth To Death - 2 Samuel 11:14-17 (NIV)

Scripture of the Day
2 Samuel 11:14-17
"Sin Gives Birth To Death"

In the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah. In it he wrote, “Put Uriah in the front line where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw from him so he will be struck down and die.” So while Joab had the city under siege, he put Uriah at a place where he knew the strongest defenders were. When the men of the city came out and fought against Joab, some of the men in David’s army fell; moreover, Uriah the Hittite died.

------------------------------------------

Again, James 1:15 tells us that when sin is full-grown, it gives birth to death!  David should have been out  on the battle field fighting with his men, instead of walking the roof-top!  Because of his own lustful desires, he looked upon another man's wife!  By giving into his desires, it dragged him into sin!  And in his sin another man's wife was to give birth to his child!  Although the child had not yet grown, the sin was full grown! This full grown sin was now giving birth to death!

Because, Uriah (Bathsheba's husband) would not go home to his wife (Uriah was committed to the war (read vs. 10-13)) when called from the battle field, there was no chance that David's sin could be covered up with a lie.  So instead of killing the sin with truth, David allow the sin to give birth to death!  He had Uriah carry his own death sentence!

Now David was the king, and he had rights to anything and anyone!  But because of his own shame, his sin had a direct impact on himself, Bathsheba, Uriah, Joab, and the unborn child!  No one can ever say, "My sin will only hurt me!"  Every sin hurts someone else, even when the sin is against yourself!!!

May the Word of GOD give us guidance to righteousness!

Some people think that the world is so big that comitting one sin is like throwing a pebble in the ocean, but what they fail to realize is that it still causes a ripple effect and it does not go unnoticed...it will hit something or someone; Afterall even a tsunmi starts with a ripple.

Wow! The small ripple can give birth to a tsunmi, just as a small sin (no such thing), can give birth to death! And just like the small ripple that becomes full-grown will destroy those things that are in it's path, the same is for a sin that is full-grown! It will destroy those who are in it's path! We have all seen families, ministries, etc. destroyed (killed) by sin!
